The weekend was great. We visited the ruins of Hampi and the huge cave temples of Badami. They are great. Will write in detail and post pictures soon.

On to Hampi
Another trip this month! Since tomorrow is a holiday (Republic day), we took a day off on Friday. We are going to Hampi, an UNESCO heritage site. Will let you know of my experience.
In Chennai
I’m Chennai today and tomorrow. I came here to attend a wedding of a friend of mine. For those who know me, it might be a surprise that I took efforts to attend a function. That is because he is the only one with whom I’m in touch with for the past 10 years. Anyway, I feel good that I came here and attended the function. I decided to stay one more day so that I could visit few other friends.
Write-up & Photos
I wrote about the recent trip. Text version is in my site. Text & photos are published in Worldisround page. You can see it at: http://www.worldisround.com/articles/268255/index.html.
Best swimmer!
Life is funny! Apparently, I was the only one who didn’t get into water during last weekend trip. So they awarded me ‘Best swimmer’. It was both embarrassing (I grew up most of my life near sea) and surprising (I never got any award after first year of college).
Kick-start journey
If it was ‘making friends’ last year, this year I’ve decided to make as much travel as possible. In fact, I’m blogging this entry just after an exciting journey to Malpe beach on the west coast of India.
We started on Friday (6th) night and reached Malpe on Saturday. After breakfast, we left for St. Mary’s island. Then in the evening we went to Kaup beach. In the night there was disco with bonfire. We started our journey back on Sunday and we reached midnight.
Will post photos and a longer version soon.
Weekend in Bangalore
This weekend, it was a trip from dry, hot and sultry Chennai to warm and rainy Bangalore. Since it was the last weekend of school holidays, I couldn’t get a seat in train and had to go for bus. I used KSRTC (Karnataka state road transport corporation) bus and the onward journey was very pleasant. I should make a mention of the grand Koyambedu bus station. Man! India is developing and politicians are learning. Gone are the days when bus stations were in disarray. There is still a room for lot of improvement like better signs, but the path is promising.
How did I spend the time? Eating good food and watching
Anniversary & Birthday
I’m one of those rare genes who was born on their parent’s wedding anniversary, the main advantage (especially when you become old and memory is slowly fading) is that it is lot easier to remember the day, but of course this also meant (when growing up), one celebration is cut out.
This year we were blessed with a twin blessing – it fell on a weekend and the whole family could gather together. My parents had already come home, my sister arrived on Friday and my brother-in-law on Sunday.
I, being crazy about long drives, suggested that we go to Pondichery, which is around 120 kilometers from Chennai. So on Saturday we took our first ‘long family drive’ in the car. I should admit that the ECR (east coast road) is well laid and maintained that makes driving enjoyable, though fellow drivers can drive you nuts with their overtaking and the favorite past-time of honking. Our first stop was the famous Aurabindo Ashram. Its serenity did attract me, but probably I expected too much and I was disappointed. After a few minutes in the Ashram, we drove along the coast and went to St. Lourdes Church, Villianur, as suggested by my sister. I walked around enjoying the cool environment and casually making snaps of the church, while, I am sure, my family prayed earnestly for all of us, especially me. After a lunch break, we went to Chunnambar boathouse for a pleasant ride on the backwaters. We drove fast to get to Auroville before 16h30, its closure to public visit; but couldn’t make it, though we visited other places, like the boutique, which are open beyond 16h30.
On Sunday, the day of anniversary and birthday, my sister and I, made plans for surprise shopping for my parents. I gifted mom a saree and dad a T-shirt. Of course as a birthday boy, I bought two pants. In the afternoon we visited Dakshinchitra, a small town created with ancient houses in south India. Though hot climate made us sweat and tired, the visit was worth. One visit that we all enjoyed was the one to glass blowing section. The artist’s skill in making a horse and a swan with the glass was simply wonderful.
On the whole, we did lots of activities as a family this weekend. Though all of us were tired, we did have a happy time.
A new travel article
As I was doing video editing of my trip to Blackforest in Germany, I took some time off to create a photo album in worldisround. You can view the article here. Don’t forget to make your comments.
Romance with nature
My date(!) was fabulous. It is my kind of place – surrounded by mountains, a lake in front, a serene spot. I spent a lot of time reading and writing. Good food as well. So in total, a good holiday. May be I will go back whenever I need to spend some quite time.
